Bus bandit to be sentenced in January

A Brill Street man who police said used a SEPTA bus to escape a late June bank robbery will be sentenced in federal court on Jan. 9, according to court records.

Daniel Connelly, 28, robbed a Wells Fargo bank at 9101 Roosevelt Boulevard in the late afternoon on June 24 and then caught a southbound Route 1 bus to get away, police said. He didn’t get far. Police stopped the bus on the Boulevard’s 7300 block and took Connelly into custody. They had found him on the bus with the $500 he got from the bank and his bus pass. Detectives later said Connelly, of the 2200 block of Brill Street, had committed four other robberies, which they believe he fled on SEPTA vehicles.

In September, Connelly’s case was transferred to the federal court system, and he pleaded guilty later that month, according to court records. ••
